GOALPARA: The Assam Police in a massive operation launched on Monday was successful in seizing gold and silver jewelry worth 40 lakhs in Assam's Goalpara district.

The police also seized other stolen items like cash, a laptop, a mobile, a camera, a car, and a scooter from their possession.

The six people who are connected to these stolen items were nabbed by the Goalpara Police.

The arrested persons have been identified as Amit Biswas, Abdul Karim, Hasanur Ali, Noor Alam, Jahirul Haque, and Gopal Das.

According to a report, these same six persons were also associated with a robbery case in one Ashok Kumar Ghosh's residence in Gowaltuli locality in Goalpara on 3rd September.

Following a first information report lodged by Ashok Kumar Ghosh, the police launched search operations in Goalpara to nab the culprits and were able to get hold of them today.

The National Crime Records Bureau data showed that Assam witnessed a 10 percent rise in crime in 2021 if compared to 2020 data. Assam in total recorded 1.33 lakh cases of crime in the state in 2021.

However, the state's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a statement a few months ago that there has been a 39.4 percent decline in the crime rate in Assam during the January-March quarter of 2022 as compared to the same period the previous year.

These data reveal that Assam is emerging as a hotbed of crimes in the country.

Assam registered a total of 17,351 FIRs for theft and 5,010 for burglary in the year 2021.

Assam is grappling with a very big unemployment problem where more than 17-18 lakh are educated but still unemployed.

It is seen that unemployment is one of the major causes of people turning into illegal ways like theft and dacoity to earn money for their survival.

The chief minister though is taking steps to bring down this humongous number of unemployed in the state through his '1 lakh jobs' project.
