DOOMDOOMA: In a remarkable transformation, the area once plagued by a noxious atmosphere has undergone a profound change, evolving from a dumping ground into a flourishing organic farming endeavor. This groundbreaking project, initiated by the Doomdooma Municipality, has breathed new life into the space located at number eight on Doomdooma Philobari Road in Tinsukia district.

The inauguration of the organic farming project marked a significant milestone, attended by key figures such as MLA Rupesh Goala, Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapnil Pal, and Call and Fix Director Uday kanoi. The event drew municipal leaders, senior journalists, dignitaries from various fields, and dedicated workers.

Over the past 15 years, this dumping ground, once inundated with garbage, is now on its way to becoming a picturesque park, showcasing the potential for sustainable urban development. The innovative approach adopted by Doomdooma Municipality sets an example for other regions grappling with waste management issues.

The journey to convert this dumping ground into an organic farming project spanned almost two years, with concerted efforts and planning. Today, the first step was taken with the sowing of paddy seeds, coupled with the experimental application of organic fertilizers derived from the waste present in the dumping ground.

A significant achievement was the removal of 18,000 metric tonnes of waste plastic from the dumping ground, contributing to environmental conservation. The waste was efficiently sent to a Cement Factory in Meghalaya, demonstrating the municipality's commitment to sustainable waste disposal practices.

As the organic farming project takes root, the municipality, in collaboration with MLA Rupesh Goyala, envisions the development of a beautiful park on the same land. This dual-purpose initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the region.

Doomdooma's success story serves as an inspiration for communities looking to repurpose neglected spaces, highlighting the potential for positive change through innovative and sustainable initiatives. The organic farming project and the envisioned park stand as a testament to the community's dedication to transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for growth and renewal.
