GUWAHATI: Assam Police on Sunday evening raided Victor Das' residence at Dadara village in Hajo of Kamrup district.

Das had earlier been arrested for alleging cash- for- jobs scam in the recently held direct recruitment exams for Grade III and IV in the state government.

The police also seized the laptop of Das, according to his relatives.

"It hasn't been long since his father died and his mother's condition is not well following his arrest. She has to run from place to place to bail him out," one of the relatives said, declining to be named.

The relative further added, "He just informed the police about the middlemen who offer jobs in exchange for huge amounts of money. It is not justified to arrest him."

In the meantime, following the arrest by Dispur Police of seven touts from Borbari area on Monday morning, Victor's mother said, "There is evidence that job brokerage is going on in the state. Whether it is water resources or other departments, brokers are brokers."

The brokers were picked up by a team from Dispur police station on Sunday night from a lodge when they were reportedly preparing a list of candidates for appointment into posts of the Water Resources department.

"Victor was talking about these brokers," she added.

She also appealed to her son not to get involved in such cases in the future, by putting himself into jeopardy.

Victor Das, a coaching institute instructor, had tried to blow the lid off a similar scam which allegedly involved even ex- MLAs demanding money for appointments into Grade III and IV posts for which the state government had held direct recruitment exams across the state on August 21 and 28.

Meanwhile, several students of Victor Das were grilled by the police on Sunday. They are also reported to have submitted to police the call records and screenshots of conversations with brokers promising jobs in lieu of money.
