SILCHAR: The rural areas have witnessed a significant decline in poverty since the present government came into power. This improvement is attributed to various targeted development initiatives taken by the central and as well as State government. Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy made this remarks at the ceremonial distribution programme of desktop computers under Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan to the 43 GPs of 15 development blocks of Cachar district organized by the Cachar administration under the aegis of SIPRD, Assam at the conference hall of Cachar Zilla Parishad on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Rajdeep Roy said that since the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, there has been significant development in the rural areas of the country. Panchayats are now working with transparency. During the period of previous government, the government funds were misutilized and the needy people in rural areas were not benefited by the central and state sponsered schemes but now the scenerio has changed and the people are benefited by the schemes in the field of development.

Terming the present government as pro-poor government MP Dr Roy emphasized the significance of rural development for the overall progress of nation and said that rural areas play a key role in shaping culture and economic foundation of the country. Dr Roy also expressed his gratitude towards the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for implementing various developmental schemes in both rural and urban areas.

While talking at the event, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai said that computers are being given to the GP secretaries and GP presidents to facilitate the work of the Panchayat. He suggested for its proper utilization. However, MLA Rai appealed to the secretaries to strive for the development of the infrastructure of the Gaon Panchayat office and appreciated about the proper implementation of government sponsored schemes and developmental works of the central and state government. Lakhipur MLA Koushik Rai also advised the GP secretaries to be proactive in proper implementation of every schemes allotted to the public so that needy people can get the benefits and not deprived. President of Zilla Parishad Amitabh Rai also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, CEO of Cachar Zilla Parishad Ranjeet Laskar said that out of 500 desktop computers in the state, 43 GPs desktop computers were allotted in 15 blocks of Cachar district and the construction of 4 Gaon Panchayat buildings in Cachar under the Rastriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan has been completed. Besides, the renovation work of 17 common service centres has been undertaken. Out of these construction work of 7 common service centres have already been completed. After taking up the repair work of 16 GP buildings, 10 buildings have been completed. The work on the remaining 6 is going on at a fast pace, he added.

Later, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, Lakhipur MLA Koushik Rai, President Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai and CEO , Cachar Zilla Parishad Ranjeet Kumar Laskar ceremonially handed over the desktop computers to the GP secretaries, stated a press release.
