GUWAHATI: The two minor victims who were allegedly abused by the doctor couple in Guwahati had to undergo DNA tests, which were conducted at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

A team of city police at Paltan Bazar escorted the minors, at the heart of the shocking child abuse case in the city, to the GMCH for the tests on Friday.

Earlier, Waliul Islam and his wife Sangeeta Datta, both the doctors accused of the mean crime, were taken for the DNA tests conducted at the GMCH.

It should also be mentioned here that a housemaid of the accused doctor couple in the Guwahati child abuse case has been arrested in connection with the case earlier on Thursday.

The housemaid was arrested after her misdeeds of torturing the minor victims were captured on the CCTV footage that has been recovered by the police from the doctor’s residence, sources informed.

After evidence of the housemaid torturing the minor victims were found recorded on the CCTV footage, she was arrested for her cruelty towards the innocent victims, sources informed.

Earlier on Wednesday, a journalist identified to be Abhijit Bose, was arrested for his involvement in the shocking case that has shaken the people of Assam and elsewhere to the core. He is said to be the brother of a personal assistant of Sangeeta Datta, the prime accused doctor.

According to sources, Abhijit had provided means of protection to his elder sister through conversations held over the phone, which were later recovered. He has been arrested under Section 120 (B), which pertains to providing protection to the accused.

Later on the same day, Dr. Waliul Islam’s police custody was extended by another 5 days by the court of the chief judicial magistrate in the city. The city police had produced accused Islam before the court after the completion of his five-day police custody, seeking a further extension of 5 days police custody.
