IMPHAL: In a recent cabinet meeting held in Chandel district, Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren announced significant decisions aimed at bolstering governance in hill districts under the Go to Hills Mission. One key outcome is the decision to conduct direct recruitment to fill 50% of vacant positions across various departments, with the Home department seeing a 100% recruitment drive.

The Home Department, overseen by Chief Minister Biren himself, is among the departments slated for direct recruitment. Notably, 136 sub-inspector (male), 100 assistant sub-inspector (male), and 25 assistant sub-inspector (female) positions were approved for recruitment.

The meeting, held at the Chandel DC office, addressed a total of 49 agenda items, including the approval of ex-gratia and compensation for the Lilong Chingjao incident on January 2, 2024, and the appointment of the next of kin for Chingakham Lamyanba Meitei, who was killed on December 31, 2023.

Direct recruitment approvals spanned various departments, such as home, art and culture, electrical, minor irrigation, MoBEDS, tourism, GAD, taxation, excise, treasury and accounts, institutional finance, and CADA. The cabinet also greenlit schemes like Chief Minister's Farmer Livelihood Support, Sportspersons Livelihood Guarantee, Khungang Ama Sanabung Ama, and Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang.

Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned a proposal to exempt the recruitment ban for Anganwadi Workers, Helpers, and Mini-Anganwadi Workers in the Department of Social Welfare. In Manipur Information Commission, direct recruitment for 50% of existing vacancies received approval.

Additionally, the cabinet addressed issues related to the regularisation of director in-charge and OSD in-charge positions, offering a one-time relaxation of the period of joint directorship in the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and the Department of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change.

In an unlisted agenda item, the cabinet agreed to transfer 130 acres of land near Leimakhong Military Station to the Army in exchange for 69.91/74.24 acres of Defence land at Koirengei Old Airfield to the state government.
