Manipur: Security Forces Apprehend PREPAK Cadres in Manipur, Uncover Arms
Recent police operations in Manipur lead to the arrest of four People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres.
IMPHAL: In a significant development, the Manipur police have successfully apprehended four cadres associated with the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). The arrests were made in various locations within the Imphal West district over the past 24 hours, shedding light on the group's illicit activities.
Acting on valuable intelligence, the Manipur police conducted a targeted raid at a suspected location, resulting in the apprehension of two members affiliated with the PREPAK (Progressive) faction. These individuals were allegedly involved in extorting money from the general public and shopkeepers in the Imphal West District.
Further investigations ensued, leading the police to another hideout where two members of the PREPAK (VC) organization were arrested. These individuals were reportedly engaged in extortion activities targeting various shops in Imphal West District. The arrests were accompanied by the confiscation of a .32 pistol, along with one magazine containing four live rounds, Rs. 22,000 in cash, and two cards bearing the inscription "PREPAK (Progressive) Finance Committee - SAIMON."
Additional items seized during the operations included a mobile handset, two wallets, two Aadhaar cards, and one voter ID. Two cases have been registered to facilitate a thorough investigation into the activities of the detained individuals.
PREPAK, known as an armed insurgent group in Manipur, has been advocating for a separate and independent homeland. The arrests and the recovery of arms and ammunition underscore the ongoing challenges posed by insurgent groups in the region and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security.
