Meghalaya: Tragic Demise of MePTCL Employee Raises Questions; Suspected Suicide in Ri-Bhoi Quarters

SHILLONG: In a somber incident that unfolded in Bara Killing, Ri-Bhoi, a Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited (MePTCL) employee, Paimon Khongkrom, was discovered lifeless in his quarters. The preliminary assessment pointed to an apparent suicide by hanging, raising concerns within the community.
The distressing discovery prompted the MePTCL staff to alert the police, who swiftly arrived at the scene around 8:30 am to investigate the circumstances surrounding Khongkrom's untimely demise.
Identified as Paimon Khongkrom, the deceased was known to grapple with mental health issues, according to local sources. This revelation adds a poignant layer to the tragic incident, shedding light on potential underlying factors that may have contributed to his decision.
Despite the suspected nature of the case, the family of the deceased opted to forego the post-mortem examination. Expressing their firm belief that Khongkrom's passing was indeed a result of suicide, they conveyed no suspicions of foul play. In response to the family's request, a petition seeking exemption from the post-mortem was submitted to the Assistant District Magistrate (ADM) Nongpoh, Eric Dkhar. The petition was ultimately granted, allowing the family to take possession of Khongkrom's body for the final rites.
