AGARTALA: In a renewed attempt to enter India unlawfully, two individuals from Bangladesh were apprehended on Tuesday evening at Sabroom in Tripura's Sepahijala district, according to police sources. The duo, identified as 27-year-old Jewel Dhar and a 13-year-old boy, both hailing from Chittagong, were intercepted at Baishnabpur Tillabari.

Following their capture, the senior police officer revealed that legal actions have been taken, with Jewel Dhar placed in judicial custody and the minor sent to a juvenile home. This incident sheds light on the persistent challenge of illegal border crossings, a matter of concern for authorities.

During the arrest, the police recovered two SIM cards from the individuals, one issued in India and the other in Bangladesh. The discovery of dual SIM cards emphasizes the need for thorough investigations into the motives behind such illegal entries, as they often involve complex networks and illicit activities.

Notably, the Border Security Force has been actively addressing the issue of illegal border crossings in the region. In the preceding year alone, 744 individuals were arrested for attempting to cross the international border in the state. The breakdown of these apprehensions includes 112 Rohingya individuals, 337 Bangladesh nationals, and 295 Indians, all captured in various operations conducted by the Border Security Force.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining robust border security measures to safeguard national integrity and security. The diverse nationalities of those apprehended highlight the complex nature of such activities, necessitating continuous efforts by law enforcement agencies to monitor and respond to border threats effectively.

The rising number of cross-border arrests signals the need for collaborative efforts between neighboring countries to address the root causes of illegal migration and border violations. Strengthening diplomatic ties and implementing comprehensive strategies to address socio-economic factors contributing to such attempts are essential for long-term solutions to this persistent challenge.
