HANGZHAO: In yet another good news for the sports enthusiasts of the country, Lovlina Borgohain has secured her entry to the Paris Olympics next year and entered the finals of the Asian Games 2022 by winning the semi-final bout on Tuesday noon.

The reigning World Champion boxer and Bronze Medalist of the Tokyo Olympics in the 75 kg weight category dominated the semifinal as she completely dominated Maneekon Baison of Thailand with a 5-0 win and made her way into the finals of the tournament. She was declared winner by unanimous decision in the semi-final match on Tuesday.

With this win, Lovlina Borgohain has now become the 4th Indian boxer to win the Olympic quota for the Paris Olympics after Nikhat Zareen, Preeti and Parveen Hooda. Remarkably, all of them have qualified in different weight categories of female boxing.

The Indian Boxer maintained her discipline and defensive playing style throughout the match and used her height advance effectively to steer safe from the opponent’s attack as she successfully landed her hooks effectively on the opponent.

Notably the final match will be played on Wednesday when she will try to bag the gold medal spot. But as she had already reached the finals for her division, she has secured a Paris 2024 Olympics quota.

19-year-old Preeti Pawar lost her 54kg semi-final bout against China’s Chang Yuan, who is the reigning champion in her weight category . Preeti Pawar who made her debut in the Asian Games 2022, has already secured a bronze medal and an Olympic quota by making the semis. Nikhat has also won a bronze medal in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Narender Berwal are also guaranteed to have podium finishes but the colour of their medals is yet to be finalised owing to the upcoming matches.
