Borah Inaugurated ID Athletics Meet
Altogether 969 athletes from various parts of the State are participating in the four-day meet which will be concluded on March 11.
Guwahati: The 43rd Inter District Senior and Junior Athletics Championship got under way at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in the city today. The competition was inaugurated by the Sports and Youth Welfare minister Bimal Borah. Altogether 969 athletes from various parts of the State are participating in the four-day meet which will be concluded on March 11.
Addressing in the opening ceremony the Sports Minister today advised the participants to give thrust on performance, not in medal.
The inaugural function was also attended by Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan, former international athlete Tayabun Nisha, president of the Assam Athletics Association Lakhya Konwar and several other sports organizers. In the same function Assam Athletics Association today handed over a cheque of Rs 25,000 through Sports Minister to former footballer Sabina Minz who was recently injured in an accident and now undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College.
