GUWAHATI: A division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice RM Chhaya and Justice Soumitra Saikia disposed of a PIL (1/2022) and expressed sincere gratitude to the efforts made by counsels appearing for both sides to see that the provisions of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Rules, 2017 are implemented properly.

Petitioner Anita Verma filed the PIL seeking a directive from the High Court to the Registrar and the Chairman of the Assam Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to maintain proper records of information about applications for registration of real estate projects by promoters and registration of real estate agents, expeditious disposal of pending complaint cases following the provisions of the Act, etc.

Hearing both the parties, the bench said, "…we find that the State Government has made all endeavours to implement the provisions of Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 and the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Rules, 2017 in its true letter and spirit. We hope and trust that the efforts, which are now put in by the State government pursuant to various orders passed by this court shall be maintained, keeping in mind the provisions of the 2016 Act and the 2017 Rules. We, therefore, deem it fit to close the proceedings."
