GUWAHATI: The Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government will launch Mission Basundhara-2 in concert with Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 next with the aim of bringing as much land of the state as possible under the regular register of the state.

The government also aims to make the second phase of the mission more people-friendly than the earlier Mission Basundhara, which was launched on Gandhi Jayanti last year and benefited several lakhs of people by way of resolving land-related issues. Mission Basundhara was marked by online applications by citizens and disposal of the matters concerned by Revenue officials through field visits.

According to official records, a total of 8,13,981 people had submitted online applications under Mission Basundhara during the first phase, out of which 5,82,688 matters were sorted out. The remaining 2,31,293 applications were rejected due to various reasons.

Mission Basundhara-2 will enable indigenous landless people living on government land to apply for settlement in their favour. The government will try to give these indigenous landless people land rights and include the details in government records.

Further, it has come to the government's notice that many landless people are living in village grazing land (VGR) and professional grazing land (PGR) since several decades. Therefore, such people will also be given an opportunity to apply for land settlement and eligible indigenous applicants will be given land rights.

Talking to The Sentinel, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, GD Tripathi, said that once Mission Basundhara-2 is launched the applications for land settlement will be disposed of on mission mode as per the government's land policy.
